Where does the time go? Down the tubes, apparently. Yesterday was the official five-year “blogoversary” for iBZP.
Nothing about the site has fundamentally changed since this time last year, aside from overhauling the layout for the 48th time. There aren’t really any plans to change the site over the coming year — just more mindless blather from yours truly.
I’ve kind of hit a wall recently in terms of what I want to write about on the site. There’s plenty going on in my life right now, but I just haven’t had the energy or motivation to put anything down when I get home lately. It’s been ridiculously busy at work lately, so it’s probably just a slump.
Anyhoo, happy belated birthday to my blog! Take a stroll through the (semi-up-to-date) archives if you’re feeling nostalgic.

Now, for the re-cap…
There were obviously some ups and downs this year. I know losing an Uncle and losing a dog obviously aren’t the same thing, but saying goodbye to Marty and Sparty were definitely two of the toughest events my family has had to deal with in the past several years. While I usually only saw Marty once or twice a year, I can honestly say that I was closer with him (and LouAnn) than some of my blood relatives. Hey, I can’t think of any other Aunts or Uncles who ever paid me to fetch beers for them. I know Morgan and Kyra are still young, but I’m just happy they had a few years to get to know their Uncle Marty. He was a great guy, and he will be missed.
Losing Sparty back in October — especially so suddenly — hit me a lot harder than I ever would’ve imagined. While I never lived in the same house with that dog, she was the first real pet I ever had a connection with, and I already find myself missing her greetings at the door whenever I go over to my dad’s to visit. I’ll probably have other pets in my lifetime, but I doubt any of them will ever live up to the “Barry Sanders of dog.”
On the positive side of things, I landed a great new job this year, saw some amazing concerts, and attended one of my best friend’s wedding. Oh, and I got engaged! I know I’ve already been done with school for close to two years, and living on my own for even longer than that, but this felt like the year that I really grew up, for lack of a better term.
Getting engaged was pretty huge, and I certainly couldn’t imagine a better person to spend the rest of my life with. Stef is heading off to grad school in Chicago in less than a week, which means we’ll be starting the whole long distance thing pretty soon. I’m not saying the next two years will be easy, but I figure if we can make it through this (and I know we will), Stefy and I will be ready to take on just about anything life can throw at us.
Okay, so this post has officially meandered in to one long sap-tastic rant, which means it’s time for me to wrap things up. I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year’s Eve. Best wishes for a great 2008!

It’s hard to believe, but we’re already about two weeks away from a new year. 2007 has been a pretty wild year — definitely more ups than downs, but I wanted to take a look back at some of the highlights, so here’s the first set: January-June.
I’ll try to post the follow-up entry by the first week of January.

Welcome to the new and improved iBZP… now with 0g of trans-fat!
Yep, after a year and a half of the old Apple theme, I decided it was time for a change. I’m slowly but surely working to migrate the blog over to Wordress. That probably doesn’t mean anything to you, but it’s basically an open-source blogging platform that’s a hell of a lot easier to manage than the program I had been using for my website.
Aside from the new design, you shouldn’t notice too many changes. There will be a few hiccups, I’m sure, but things should sort themselves out soon enough.
A few things to take note of:
• Old archives can be found by clicking on “Archives (Old Site)” under Pages in the far-left column.
• To see pictures, you shold click on the “Photos” link under the Categories header. This will bring up every blog post that I’ve tagged as “photos.”
• The search bar in the far-left column works a lot better than the old one, so if you’re looking for a particular post, that’s the best place to start. Unfortunately, it won’t go back into the old archives, but that’s mainly because I’m too lazy to transfer all those old files over to Wordpress. Over time, as I add more new posts, the search bar will much more useful.
Anyhoo, that’s about it. Enjoy!

Okay, so my stats have been going up quite a bit lately, which is always a good thing. One stat that bugs me though is web browser usage. Internet Explorer was getting pounded by Safari and Firefox for several months, but the percent of iBZP/Pohlitics readers who use IE is back up to 55%.
iBZP looks like a mess in Internet Explorer (thanks to the photo javascript code in the sidebar), and I’ve given up trying to make it look pretty for IE users. Microsoft’s web browser sucks for a million different reasons that I won’t bore you with. But please, PLEASE take a moment to go download Mozilla’s Firefox. It’s free, it works great, and you won’t have any obnoxious ads/viruses/spyware killing your computer if you use it.
Thanks!
Hopefully you won’t even notice, but I made some minor changes to the site today. The file I use to make iBZP was getting a little bloated after posting 942 entries since January 1, so I decided to give it gastric bypass and start from scratch. You shouldn’t notice any differences, other than (1) shuffling the order of links in the header and (2) shifting the blog archives for 2006 down in the sidebar.
The goal is to make things a little easier on me when it comes to making updates to the website. It was getting to the point where it took about 30 minutes to upload any changes, which was more than a little ridiculous. I think everything should be smoothed over for now, but please pardon the dust as I begin this transition.
Okay, so I just checked iBZP on Micro$oft’s Internet Explorer for the first time in several weeks (I know, I’m a shoddy webmaster). It looks like complete schlock. Every other browser I’ve checked? Looks great!
As usual, IE can’t read a site with any sort of javascript or flash code in it, so that’s why it looks like crap. For anyone out there who’s still using IE to look at iBZP, I apologize.
Of course, this gives me an excuse to tell you again to download Mozilla’s Firefox. I won’t waste my breath explaining why IE sucks so much ass, but if you need to be told again, go check out this website.
In the meantime, GET FIREFOX!
