This is what I looked like yesterday, on my second day of trying to jog.
Okay, so that’s not really fair to this poor old man.
I actually looked much worse.
Seriously though, I think there’s a reason I never went out for track or cross country in high school, and why I always dreaded having to run the mile in gym class.
There were times on Monday and Tuesday when I thought my heart was going to burst out of my chest, like that scene in Alien.
Of course, the worst part about the last three days was that I could barely walk today. My two new favorite activities are: (1) sighing when I sit down, and (2) poppingĀ Ibuprofen.
All of this begs the question… is it really worth it to be healthy?
We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. I know I need the exercise, but part of me is starting to think I either need to talk my dad into playing tennis with me now that the weather is warm, or just accept the fact that a leisurely walk is the most strenuous physical activity my body can endure at the ripe old age of 23.

You’re not old, I am. You’re just out of shape. Remember how the people on the Biggest Loser feel like at first. Then after a few weeks, they’re running up mountains. I have confidence in you. Hang in there.
Hang in there Zack - it WILL get easier. When I started running, I went to the high school track and would run a couple laps and then walk one & that really seemed to help. I am up to 3 miles w/no walking, but after 3 miles I start to look like that old man too. Keep it up, I think it is great. Give yourself a goal - pick a local 5k to run in, that is what I did! P.S…. we miss you here!
I’ve got a ways to go, but thanks for the vote of confidence, Kim.
