That’s right. Michigan State will be playing in the Champs Sports Bowl on December 28 in sunny Orlando Florida:
The 7-5 Spartans earned their first bowl bid in four years by winning their final two regular-season games against Purdue and Penn State, and on Sunday they were rewarded with an invitation to the Champs Sports Bowl, Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla.
MSU will take on No. 14 Boston College (10-3), which lost to Virginia Tech on Saturday in the ACC championship game. The game kicks off at 5 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN.
The Eagles, led by quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Matt Ryan, reached as high as No. 2 in the polls this season.
Boy, taking on BC is going to be a tall order, but like I’ve been saying all year, these guys are capable of beating anyone.
I’m just glad we’ll be playing in any bowl game, but it’s especially nice to send our seniors off in style like this. It’s also encouraging to know that there’s a pretty strong Spartan contingency down in Florida, so hopefully that means we’ll have decent support in the stands.
Man, first the furry rodents’ intramural basketball club loses to Tommy Turtleneck’s Harvard team. Then comes news that OSU will get to play for a National Championship against LSU, whose coach just stiffed UM for his “dream job” yesterday. And now Michigan State will get to play in a warm weather bowl.
Rough weekend for the folks in Ann Arbor, huh?
Remember, as that sage Mark Dantonio once said, “pride comes before the fall.”
