les miles staying with LSU

Not trying to rub salt in the wound here. Honest:

Sources close to both Les Miles and the Louisiana State administration report the coach has reached a multi-year contract extension with his current school and will remove himself from consideration as the next Michigan coach.
LSU now has confirmed Miles’ extension with an official release on its web site, which concludes:

“Miles will not entertain any offer from the University of Michigan to become the Wolverines head coach or from any other institution.”

At a press conference this afternoon, Miles - whose team will play Tennessee today on the Southeastern Conference championship game - angrily denied a report earlier in the day by ESPN that he had accepted the Michigan job.

“There was misinformation on ESPN, and I think it’s imperative that I straighten it out,” Miles said. “I’m the head coach at LSU. I will be the head coach at LSU. I have no interest in talking to anybody else. I’ve got a championship game to play, and I’m excited about the opportunity of my damn strong football team to play in it. And that’s really all I would like to say.

“It was unfortunate that I had to address my team with this information this morning, but that being done, I think we’ll be ready to play. There will be no questions for me. I represent me in this issue. Please ask me after. Thank you very much. Have a great day.”

Uh, so who else is on the list?

Where Martin turns next is uncertain. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano, Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel and California coach Jeff Tedford all fit Martin’s wishlist of characteristics for the next Michigan coach, but none has the Midwest ties and proven track record at two schools that made Miles so attractive.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens from here.
