(I wrote this last night, so read the tense accordingly)
Well, as expected tonight’s show was pretty great. There wasn’t an opener because, let’s face it, Bruce doesn’t need one. He came out a little after 8 and ripped right into the set with “Radio Nowhere” from the new album. After that the next two and a half hours just flew by.
Highlights of the set for me included Badlands, Tunnel of Love, She’s the One, Lonesome Day, The Rising, Livin’ on the Future, Dancing in the Dark, and of course Born to Run. Reviews from the Detroit rags can be found here:
• Freep: A little ‘Magic,’ a few messages, and a whole lot of fun
• DetNews: Springsteen brings special ‘Magic’ to near-full Palace
I don’t remember a whole lot about the set they played at Comerica four years ago, but we had a great crowd tonight and I liked the intimate feel of the Palace a lot more this time around.
My one (mild) complaint of the evening was having to sit next to this crazy drunk broad who kept bumping into me the whole time. Other than that though the show was fantastic. I just feel bad for Stef’s brother Justin — who’s a huge Springsteen fan — beecause he had school stuff to take care of tonight and couldn’t make it.
So yeah, it was another great show with my girl and her folks. Here’s the setlist* for anyone who’s interested (hand-written, no less):

*Bruce actually played Ramrod instead of Kitty’s Back. You can read more about the last minute substitutehere.

We had a great time, too, of course (wish, though, we’d had more time to visit with Stefy and her folks!).
I thought they were having a lot of fun, didn’t you? And I must say, “The American Land” is one hell of a rousing ending! The greatest American band ever; including a solo show a few years ago, this was Bruce concert #6 for me!
backstreets.com also has a nice review, the setlist, and a pic of the kid with the RAMROD PLEASE sign…
Yeah, I’d say they were having a great time up there. Including the Seeger Sessions show from last summer, this was Bruce concert #3 for me.
