Sparty girl has been really sick lately. When I went over to my dad’s to babysit Kyra for a few hours last Thursday I heard about how she hadn’t been eating much lately, and had a couple seizures the previous weekend.

Well, I guess things seem to be getting worse, not better.

Sherry took her to the vet this weekend, and the doctor basically said it’s either an infection (which is treatable), or something more serious like cancer. He prescribed some meds that should help if it is indeed an infection, but whatever the drugs were just seemed to make Sparty even more loopy.

Stef and I went over to the house yesterday for what was supposed to be a happy little afternoon get-together with my folks and my Aunt Elaine and Bob to celebrate our engagement. While we still had a good time — Sherry whipped up this killer meal — it wound up being kind of a heavy affair since Sparty had a couple more seizures during our visit.

This all just kind of sucks. Sparty is twelve, and while she’s definitely been slowing down lately, we certainly weren’t expecting her to get so sick at this stage in her life. Under normal circumstances, a Schnauzer should live for at least another three or four years.

I guess the bottom line is that I hope she’s not suffering. If we’re lucky enough to have Sparty around for another year or two, I just don’t want her to be as miserable as she clearly was yesterday. All the wheezing and the seizures were just gut wrenching to watch, and it’s not even like I’m over at my dad’s house that often.

Poor pup. Get well, Sparty girl!
