Well, Stefy and I went to the Dave Matthews Band concert at Pine Knob with Teri, her sister Mary, Justin, and his friend last night. I think this was my fourth time at a Dave show, and while they really rocked out on a few of my favorite tunes, Stef and I both agreed that the setlist wasn’t the greatest.
Aside from the weather, the main problem was that they played at least three or four “new” tracks during the middle part of the show, and while they were actually good songs, I think the band kinda lost us there for about 45 minutes by playing all this material no one was really familiar with.
Of course, the more time they spent on these new songs, the less time they had to play warhorse tunes like Ants Marching, Satellite, or Tripping Billies.
On the flipside, the concert’s highlights included: opening with Too Much, Stay Wasting Time, #36/Everyday, Crush, Grey Street and closing with All Along the Watchtower.
Here’s the complete setlist:
Rain Delay
Anyone Seen The Bridge *
Too Much *
Dream Girl *
You Might Die Trying *
Stir It Up [tease]
Crush *
#27 *
Corn Bread *
Don’t Drink the Water *
Grey Street *
Gravedigger
Eh Hee *
The Idea Of You *
Stand Up [For It] *
Jimi Thing *
Louisiana Bayou *
Everyday *
Stay (Wasting Time) *

Overall it was a pretty fun show, but like I jokingly said to Stef, I would still love to see them do a concert where they don’t play a single song recorded after the year 2000. That would be the perfect Dave show, IMHO.
Anyway, here are a few more pictures from the concert…

I have to admit, the giant screens were pretty sweet — I’d love to see what U2 could do with these

They let the lawn people into the pavillion to avoid the storm

Crazy, Angry Dave

Sweet, Gentle Dave

Playing with our free DTE flashlights… oooooh

AHHH!!! Thanks for the preview on the DMB concert. I start my round on 9/11 at my alma mater in Gainesville (which they haven’t played since before I was a student at UF), for my 13th show. Then come back home to see him again on 9/14 & 9/15, which ironically enough will be my 14th & 15th concert! I CAN’T wait! They are amazing… each time I see them, it’s a whole new experience!!!
