Okay, so I haven’t seen anything like this in the last 24 hours, but we have had some hellacious weather recently.
Last night at the DMB concert (more on that in this post) Dave came out a few minutes before the show was supposed to start so he could warn everyone about the huge storm that was coming towards Pine Knob. In fact, they were so worried about people getting hurt that they invited the folks out on the lawn to come underneath the pavillion to seek shelter. Things got pretty nasty for about a half hour, but it was kinda cool to watch this thunderstorm pass overhead while we were protected under the roof.
So fast forward to this afternoon. It’s about 4:25 and the guy who sits next to me is getting up to leave. I hadn’t looked outside in a while, but as he’s walking by my desk on his way out he tells me I might want to consider taking off because there’s a huge storm headed right towards Lansing. I was wrapping up an assignement so I couldn’t bolt just yet, but lo and behold this God-awful storm pops up a few minutes later. As soon as a tornado warning was put into effect for the Lansing area the building went into lockdown mode, and we all had to gather in the hallway near the bathrooms. The storm eventually passed — it’s actually kinda sunny right now — but things were definitely hairy there for a while.
Anyhoo, I’m just hoping it’s nice this weekend and early next week for my trip to Traverse City. I’d hate to drive all the way up there and not be able to enjoy at least a little time outdoors.
